This book is invaluable for performers and teachers alike. It lists the varying pieces and composers and gives the levels for each piece. There is a good mix of the different types of music, baroque, classical, romantic, and 20th century. Each piece includes a brief, informative description of the style, technique, and voice needed to achieve performance level. It also states the area of technique that needs to be focused on or that is particularly demanding in the song.

It does not just encompass harder pieces above level 6, it has many well known pieces for students of the beginning levels in all four categories. As a teacher and classical pianist, it has helped me to choose appropriate songs that will not only help students to learn, but also to be challenged and excel. This is also the book that is recommended by both MTNA and IPTG for getting a certification. It helps you to choose appropriate songs at the right level not only for the judges, but for your skill level as well.
