At that time most Englishman were very poor. John's parents saved every extra penny to send him to school. At school Bunyan fell in with some wicked playmates. He picked up many of their evil ways. Since he did not go to church, he had not been taught that what he was doing was wrong. As Bunyan grew older, he sank deeper and deeper into sin. Finally, he overheard some women talking about the Bible. He became interested in the Bible and started reading it every night.
