Finished! Anyone else? Now I'm dying to talk! The authors notes were sooooo depressing...I was hoping a bit more were true.It was a fun easy read though and enjoyed being tricked by Gwens involvement!

I think Gwen was the best surprise of the book! I didn't see that coming.

I found this light-hearted, and somewhat entertaining, but a bit too much non-believable antics for me, almost a farce.  Too many improbabe situations.  I did enjoy the chapter when Richard's family arrived in Paris.  I doubt if I will read any more of the series.

Linda that is exactly what I was thinking.  Think Peter Sellers.  But, I might read the others for fun, sometimes I just need a little fun and silliness.

I finished as well and was surprised to see how many more books there are in the series.  From Amazon reviews it sounds like the audio version is well done, so I'm thinking that would make a lightweight, entertaining book to listen to on my next long drive.

I think Gwen was my favorite character!

I'm finished!  I like the idea of trying to get the audio for the other books. I know my library doesn't have them. They use NetLibrary for audiobooks and I don't think they are on there.  But we are supposed to get Overdrive soon, so maybe I will get lucky.

I loved Henrietta and it looks like the next book is about her and Miles.  Should be fun!

I'm finished and I liked it for a quick fluff read.  I love Miss Gwen too (and want my very own parasol to poke people with).  I enjoyed the parts in the past far more than I did the parts in the present with Colin and Eloise.  I'm glad I liked it since I own the next 4 books and the Pink Carnation series is what I'm using for challenge #4.

Devil take it! Lol

I just finished this tonight on audiobook. It really was fun to listen to, so those that have mentioned looking for the rest of them on audio, I do agree! I thought it was fun and cute, but I really didn't care much about the present with Eloise and Colin at all. LOL! I also want my own parasol! :) I might have to pick up the next one on audio to see what happens next, but I do also wish there was more history written into them.

I had the print and audio versions. Well to be brutally honest, the only way that I could finish the book was to skim the audio version. Call me curmudgeon, cynic, whatever. I am not a romantic, so this is not my type of book. Cute story, but not for me.

My recommendation for future readers is read the first 2 chapters and the historical note at the end. Then decide whether to continue.

IF I HAD PAID ATTENTION, I WOULD HAVE READ HER BIO AND KNOWN THAT THIS IS A HISTORICAL ROMANCE.  Some people love them and I respect everyone's opinion. What a boring world this would be if we were all alike.

I enjoyed it!  smiley Once I got past the modern dialog and the modern day behavior.  I though  Amy was endearing, but acted more like a spoiled 13 year old, and not a young adult.  I found the cast of characters all very charming .  Will I read any more in this series?  Yes!  I have it on good authority (my local librarian) that the following books are much better.

For those who read my first post, please read the edited version. I went to Lauren Willig's website and understand where she is "coming from" now. I used to read Historical Romance, but changed to a thriller/mystery genre. This must be a sign of "getting old."

Poor Pink Carnation. Now I am feeling guilty and mean for not liking her. devil

I am with the others who said that I would have liked a bit more history.  This is one of those books that is a bit of each genre romance, chicklit. but the only thing historical about them was the setting.

Our next read Genghis by Conn Iggluden is very firmly historical fiction, and I am grateful for all that have participated, and hope as many of you that have this time will do so again.

Mary, I had the same reaction as you, when I first started reading PINK.....  It was not what I had expected.  I thought..."What the .......??"  But, after the first chapter, I started to enjoy it.  After reading several books on Catherine de Medici, I needed something fun and light!
