this is the first mary kingsley book ive read and i find it amazingly beautiful..The cover may look like just any other typical pirate-plotted story but the new elements like a father who could not love his self-sacrificing daughter and a pirate hero who does not have the normal ego-laden machoism is quite refreshing. He seems almost real with his vulnerabilities as well as his abilities to understand rebecca's (the heroine) pain and wants in life. i find that the story weave in and out smoothly but i wished that the author had shed more light on what further happened to rebecca's father and her sister Amelia. Somehow i wished the father had shown some sort of regret more. All in all i love this book and hope very much that there's a sequel! or somehow an extension of another story to it with reference to Marcus and Rebecca's continued future.
