This book is about a young woman, whose father left her in the care of her grandmother, after the death of his wife. Her grandmother pampered and spoiled her. After settling in the New Mexico territory and building a large ranch, Maggie's father sent for his daughter, who refused to go; because of her anger and hurt that he had left her when she was eight years old...when she was mourning the loss of her mother, and needed him most. Each time he came to see her, she would run away and hide with friends; and that's what she tries to do again, with devastating results.
