I know that some members copy editorial book reviews and post them as their own, but recently someone copied one of my personal book reviews.  Mine was written on 8/23 and hers on 9/4, so its obvious hers is the plagiarized one. As a writer, I find this practice offensive.  Is there anything I can do to get hers removed?

Wow. That's messed up! I don't have an answer for you though. I didn't see anything relevent in the Help Center either. Personally, I'd be tempted to contact the founders about that. Maybe someone else will have a better idea though.

Can't you just pm her and ask her to remove it?

You must be a good writer. I'd take it as a compliment.

Wow...it's no glitch. She made sure she didn't use every single sentence. I am blown away by her blatant plagiarism!

T-A-C-K-Y!!!!!  I found it and gave it a thumbs down.   I think if there are enough of them it throws the review out.

Thanks for all of the supportive comments!  I did send her a PM and asked her to revise or remove her review.  Hopefully she will do the right thing. The thing is, this really wasn't a good review about the book because I disliked it. That sort of thing usually stands out and many times people will give the review a thumbs down if they liked the book and don't agree.  They are going to read both of ours and wonder "what the heck?"  I also noticed that she has written 62 reviews. I wonder how many others she has copied from a different source?

Again, thanks for the all of the feedback!

I guess I'm in the minority, but I see this as a bigger deal than most people seem to.  I would be extremely upset if I were in your place (luckily, my review aren't good enough to plagarize ;)  )  Hopefully she does the right thing and removes the review.

While I was looking for the review you were talking about, I saw evidence of  something else that REALLY REALLY annoys me about the thumbs up/thumbs down system. I noticed that three people gave you a thumbs down for what was obviously a well thought out review.  I am sure it was because the review was a negative one, and they probably liked the book or are a big fan of the author.  THIS IS NOT WHAT THE THUMBS UP/DOWN SYSTEM IS FOR PEOPLE!!!  Sorry for shouting, but this is a major pet peeve of mine!

You may be in the minority, but you are not alone.  People should not be plagiarizing book reviews from any source.  That's plagiarism and a violation of copyright law.  But copying a review from another member is also very tacky!  I found the reviews in question and gave Charlene's a thumbs up and hers a thumbs down!

I would send in feedback if she doesn't remove it :(  Geesh it's even a first person review! Tacky, indeed, to say the least !

It's weird. While I didn't go through them all, it doesn't appear she did that with her other reviews.

I'm just......stunned.  Why bother?  And she had to know that people would notice that it was a repeat of the other review.  That is so bizarre.

Very strange indeed.  It's not like we're getting brownie points for writing reviews or anything.  It's not an English class assignment and we're not in high school anymore.

That's right Danielle. Which is why I don't like the thumbs up or down thing anymore. Some are doing just what you mentioned and others are going around giving certain people all thumbs down. Nothing is accurate about it.

From one professional writer to another - plagiarism is a major thorn in my side. I've had major portions of two stories plagiarized before and it royally rubbed me raw.

But a book review - like someone mentioned - why bother!? Seems like a wierd thing to copy.

That's not only just downright strange, but it would annoy me as well.  And I absolutely agree with you on folks "thumbs downing" non-positive reviews - which is most of why I find the situation strange.

That's weird. Since someone said none of this person's other reviews seem to be copied, I wonder if it's just some weird glitch in the system? The site has been really buggy in a lot of ways lately. Please update us when/if you hear back from this person!

Thanks again for everyone's support and feedback. I did receive a reply from this member. She said she liked my review and agreed with everything I said and decided to make it her own. She had no idea that she was doing anything wrong, so I explained that most people (especially writers) take plagiarism seriously and don't want to have their written work copied and claimed by someone else. In some cases it would be considered copyright infringement. That would be pretty far-fetched in this case, but annoying all the same.  So she removed it with apology and all is well.

I just want to say again how much I appreciate the community support, encouragement and feedback I received. You guys are GREAT and I'm so glad I found this wonderful site.

She could have given credit and said, "Charlene D really sums it all up for me in her review " copy of review inserted".  Thanks Charlene D.
