just so you know, you are not allowed to post asking for wishlist books.

General Rules in the Book Bazaar:

(6) No trying to jump the Wish List "line" by offering or asking for postable Wish Listed books.  Postable Wish Listed books should be posted and swapped "officially".  This of course does not apply to posts advertising an alternate ISBN  (or non-ISBN version) of a Wish Listed title; it is fine to advertise that you have those posted to your bookshelf.

Steph, she's asking for folks to post, on the site... not to her, which is skipping the line. She's next in line, meaning for example... 1st person out of 15 waiting for a book (so 1/15)... thats all, no harm unless shes telling folks to pm her with them instead of posting on the site.

General Rules in the Book Bazaar:

(6) No trying to jump the Wish List "line" by offering or asking for postable Wish Listed books.  Postable Wish Listed books should be posted and swapped "officially".

she isn't jumping the wish line hon, shes in the #1 spot for a few books, thats all :-) so shes looking for folks to post them for her, so she'll get the wishlist notification saying she can order it. Thats what she means... not breaking any rules hon.

Um . . . problem with all of this is we CAN post a wishlisted book to someone's wishlist - someone of our choice if we choose to NOT go through the FIFO line. So, in a sense, we can jump ahead in line if someone posts directly to us. If you see some of the threads in the other forums you'll see how things work. It's perfectly acceptable. Read below:

From the help docs:

Can I post a book directly to someone's Wish List?

Yes.  If you have a book that is on someone's personal Wish List, then all you need to do to offer that book directly to that member (and NOT to the first person on the Wish List) is to go to the member's Wish List and click the button there.  Be sure the ISBN on your book matches the ISBN on her Wish List!

  • Your book will be offered to that member first, no matter where she is in the Wish List for that book.
  • If that member does not request the book, it will then be offered to the first person on the wish list and continue to be offered until someone requests it or until it is Posted into the general library.

We hope that members do not do this too often, as FIFO is really the fairest way of swapping books, but they are YOUR books, and we wanted to offer this option to members who wished to use it.

Susan thanks for posting that because a lot times I will some wishlist books that I know that one person is wishing for both of those books and I want to give to that one person so I save money on shipping. I will do that next time.

That is correct Susan, but Stephanie is also correct, you cannot use the BB to ask people for postable WL books to be posted directly to you or advertise that you have postable WL books. Dana's post seems to ask that people post them, not that they post them directly to her so her post may not violate that rule.

Dana, I wish you luck getting your WL books.  I'm just not sure what the point is of starting this thread over and over.  I think if people are ready to post WL books, they will.  If I'm wrong, and this works for you, let me know!  I'll start my own thread!  ;)

Not quite everyone is attacking.  For instance...me.  My post was not an attack, just a comment/observation.

Dana, I bet your wishlist got looked at a LOT today!

I think the key is patience.  I've been a member around 2 years and still have books on my wl from when I first joined.  I know members who have been here since '05 and are still waiting for wl books.

Michelle, I agree.  I've got a couple of books going on the one year mark.  Sometimes I don't get any wish list books for a month or two. It's frustrating but patience pays off in the end. I may take a year or two before your wish list books are posted.  Some lines are that long and some books don't get posted often.

Dana, hope your books come up soon :)

Sure, I've been a member since 2005 and I have a few wishlist books I've been 1 of 1 for a long time.  But I've been amazed at some of the books I thought I'd never get, coming up.  I love the wishlist, and I don't see any harm in asking people to hurry up and read books to post that Dana is 1 of whatever on.

But Dana, I think you're going to wait a long, long time for all those cookbooks to come up.  Most people keep their cookbooks, and your choices look really good.  I wouldn't give up the ones you're asking for.  You should look on ABE or Alibris for used copies of the books you really want and don't see moving on your wishlist.  I've found many of my textbooks on those sites, as well as the second Tory Bauer mystery (very hard to get), and a needlework book for a reasonable price.  I'm very cheap about buying books, but sometimes when I really want it, I've got to just go buy it.  But good luck on your search!
