Someone just declined my request for a book because it didn't meet conditions. Now, my conditions said (I've already changed them):

For paperbacks, I have no special conditions. Please send the book! For hardback books, please include the dustjacket. Thank you for your consideration!

She said the hardcover didn't have a DJ, so she was turning it down - it was a pop-up book! It never had a DJ in the first place! I don't expect people to manufacture DJs for books that never had them - sheesh.

I have added the phrase "if it is supposed to have one" to the end of the DJ request. But seriously, people need to use common sense.

That sounds like a "I should have had a V8" moment.

Hahahahahaha! That's a hoot. Sorry to laugh, not so funny when you are trying to get a book you want and the person reading your conditions is so...you know. Can't win sometimes so ya just gotta laugh.

You're still going to lose and confuse a lot of people though... how do we know if it is "supposed to" have a dust jacket or not!!!???  I would personally turn down a request like that for any hardback without a dust cover rather than take a chance...

Since it's mostly children's books that never had them (I think), what about changing your request to read something like "I won't accept hardback books without dust covers *except* for children's books."

just a thought

That's the thing - the pop-up was for adults. I don't have more than one or two children's hardcovers on my list. I just don't want a hardcover book with a solid black cover, no illustration or anything - and that's what most hardcovers with DJs look like underneath.

I have turned down that condition in the past when the book had different editions that may have a DJ. I did PM the person and explain that my version never had a DJ and I would be happy to post it directly to them if they were still interested. If it isn't absolutely clear, I won't second guess it. One order I had said something about only wanting hardbacks and the book ordered was a paperback. I once again declined and then PM'd them. It is a shame, but since we have to "police" ourselves, sometimes the chance of losing a credit is not worth it if the conditions are not specific to the order.
