POETRY magazine is the premier magazine of Poetry, and this issue featuring some of the best contemporary poets is a great example of what it offers. This bound magazine, 92 pages in length contains three dozen poems (mostly free verse), several essays or commentaries related to poetry, a few black and white photographs related to specific poems, and brief bios of the 20 contributors. Some of the highly respected poets represented include Jane Hirshfield, Michael Robins, Eavan Boland, Adam Kirsch, Lucie Brock-Broido and Anna Maria Hong. This is a great way for readers who wish to learn about the contemporary poetry scene (sadly unrepresented in books that claim to be collections of contemporary poets but focus on the 20th century) to become familiar with some of the major new poets today and their styles.
