I recieved a book and I'm not sure if I should mark it RWAP.  The book has a lot of scuffs on the top right corner and pen sized holes (some go all the way through the cover) and two scratches that ripped on the top.  The back is even worse with the same problems.  The book looks like it's taken quite a beating and it was only just released this year.  What are the rules on cover and back damage.  I know I wouldn't send a book like this, but the rest of the book is fine, but still.

Sounds like you may have gotten a book that's on it's last read.  Scuff marks are generally OK.  Tears are OK as long as they are less than one inch.  If you have pictures you can post, we may be able to be more helpful :)

Without seeing what you're talking about, and only going by the description you gave, I'd say it's OK and not a RWAP.But like the poster above said, the tears need to be under 1".

I just got a new camera and I'm trying to figure out how to turn the flash off.  But, basically the back has damage at the top.

I just got a new camera and I haven't figured out the flash yet, but the front has four holes in a semicircle and the holes pertrude through several pages of the book.

Well, I might be suspicious that it is a bite mark. Do you think it looks like a bite mark? Cause that's not allowed.

Otherwise, It looks postable from the picture ... but its still a little hard to tell.

That looks like a kid gnawed on it.

I was thinking the same thing. It's about the right shape for teeth impressions...is there a matching imprint on the back cover? If so, then I think you probably have your answer.

The four semi-circle holes go through about 20 pages, not the entire book.  I talked to the sender and they said they recieved the book in that condition and didn't think anything of it.  Yet everyone I showed it to did think something of the 'good condition'.

Ah yes, the "That is the way I recieved it" excuse, that's a common one. Just because they didn't mind recieving it in that condition doesn't mean that it was in suitable condition to be reswapped however. It doesn't sound swappable to me, or at the very least it falls into a grey area of subjective swapability. Wheather you RWAP it or not, I would consider listing it as an unpostable instead of swapping it again yourself, or you may end up on the other end of this exchange.

I wouldn't post it myself, and I don't plan on reposting because of that.  How do I word to the sender that it's not considered in good condition with the site...?  I've only had one other RWAP...

Some of the regulars here have really good ways to write this kind of PM.  I always think I'mclumsy when I do it.  Don't chicken out because you might be non-confrontational or worried.  You have the rules of PBS on your side.  We members are the quality control for PBS.  I basically describe the damage or reason for unpostability and copy and paste the part of the rules or conditions that were violated verbatim.  Then I ask for my credit to be returned within a certain amount of time so that I can mark the transaction as "Resolved".  Usually, I thank them for sending the book (insert title) and add that I'm sorry I have to ask for my credit to be returned since it doesn't meet the postability standards as set up by PBS. And when they give me the "I got it this way" statement - I say that it shouldn't have been posted to them that way either, and that doesn't make it right to repost it.  I hope some of the more talented members will post something for you.  Good luck.
