Levi's Mom told him last week that I know some people on line who are very nice people who are helping me with a project I'm working on for him and they know his name and they're doing exactly what I asked. She said for the longest time he just stood there staring at her and he finally said, "Mom, do you mean Gramma Jade has friends who know about me? Like from other states? I'm not that important!" She said, well, you are to her. Thank you, PBS folk for showing a 9 year old boy that there is not only beauty all over the world, but there's love, too.
If a state is colored red, I have received cards for it.
If it's colored yellow, I didn't have that state and now I do.
And I'm going to be posting the names of the incredibly generous and which states they sent in just a few minutes. PBS, as I have said in the past, just rocks!
Gingerkitty sent Illinois and Minnesota
IlliniAlum83 sent Georgia, Wisconsin, Maryland and Illinois
Ladypink sent me Illinois
Khristine sent Washington, D.C.
Mona L. s ent California and two license plates for Levi's bike with his name on them. He sent her a great big hug.
catsandroses sent Washington State through IlliniAlum83
I am a bear. I have been involved in two hearings, both of which I requested, and I represented myself in both of them, and those babies take the tar right outta ya! So I've got behind on my many owed thanks but I'm gonna try to catch up.
I'm adding at the end of the list, cards I've got for states I didn't have cards for. Again, thank you so much.
He gets the first installment on Easter Sunday. His Mom said she'll call me or he will depending on which one gets to the phone first, since she hasn't even seen it.
This will be long, but it will, I hope, make sense. My son told me years ago that he would never have children.
I asked him why.
He said I'm too selfish. I don't want a child getting in the road when I want to go to Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco and drink beer and eat lobster, or when I want to go to Europe.
I said then thank you.
He said, thank you?
I said yes. I don't want people who don't want children to have them.
But that leaves me with no grandchildren. Enter my new assistant, who has a son almost ten and a two year old daughter. That son, Levi, sits listening, rapt, when I talk about where I've been. I can't take Levi to those places but I did, in most of the places I went, pick up a postcard. Well, in most of them. I'm missing several states.
What I'm doing is scanning the post cards and then putting them in safe sleeves that are transparent since many of them are from my Gram's collection. He'll get those in a box. But he'll also get a ring binder. Each page will have one or two post cards on it and text about that place, its historic significance, etc. I'm going to take that boy all around the United States so he can see the wonder that is America, not just his beloved Wyoming.
The list below is of the states and countries I already have. I'm not asking anyone to give up memorabilia of your own travels. But if you have a card for a missing state, I would love it if you would address it to me and write on it, something like, this is for Levi's collection.
The Cherokee Reservation I've listed I don't have enough information on to know which of the three it is, so I don't know which state it's in, but since it has separate nation status, that doesn't really matter.
If you have a post card for your state, a state not mentioned on the list below, I'd love it if I could actually tour every state in the United States with Levi. Thank you! Jade
