I know that wasn't allowed before, but I just got one in the mail today.    Did I miss the notice that you can now count magazines in good condition on your bookshelf?     Rhonda

and yet some folks are oblivious to things like rules.... for example the suspicious items thread has been filling up quickly this month with music cd's, dvd's, comic books, booklets without ISBN's, VHS tapes and assorted magazines...

So sorry this happened to you. :(

What about bound magazines?  Libraries (that can afford to) do have issues bound and they look like they were published as a hardcover book.  I've got one here right now.  Is the issue that magazines have ISSNs rather than ISBNs?  Or that  magazines are not bound?  Or that the mags have advertising in them?  Or something else entirely?

Ange:

Yes to all of the above.  Basically it comes down to advertising which can't be sent media mail, and the lack of an ISBN.

Even regardless of the media mail rules, and if the item has been bound into a HC book form, the site owners have set rules for the site, and magazines are not allowed.

From the help center:

Magazines: NO
  • These often contain advertising and cannot be sent MediaMail; even if not, the category is banned from PBS.

I'm happy with the magazine (great christmas gift), but I'll see if the person has anything else.  I think the format was blank.   Thanks.   R

Rhonda, I am totally curious as to what you thought you were ordering when you got the magazine? Could you PM the item number to me, so that I can make sure it is not something that needs its data infomation corrected?

I see magazines posted here quite often and report it to the "Suspicious Items" thread but some just stay on and on. Magazines for Crocheting keeps getting posted for one that I remember. I saw this while checking for a craft book for a friend.

Sherry, I am a magazine-holic. I know we cannot post magazines because of the media mail issue, but is it possible to start a thread in the book bazaar where you can post magazines and swap them with others, no credits involved? I know priority mailers from the P.O. are $4.60 online, and first class would probably run about $2 if the magazine weighs 6-8 ounces, (I'm probably overestimating the amount of first class postage here)

I have many magazines - decorator magazines, Romantic homes, Home Companion, etc. that would be great to swap with someone. We have swapacd, swapdvd, why not swap magazines too?  I also have many hobby magazines that would be great to swap.  The magazines could be mailed in a regular large envelope first class. Magazines, or some magazines, retail for anywhere from 3.99 to 6.99 and higher! Depending on the specific catagory your magazine is in, like the hobby magazines.

Thank you for listening!
