What is it with people who list a book that is on WL and then ignores the listing??  This has been happening alot with me.  Either the lister takes 3-4 days to accept the request, or doesn't accept at all and I go back to #1 on the list.  This is driving me crazy.   Am I the only one who goes nuts about this?

In defense of some of us, I lost my power for five days last month, and when it came back on I found I missed one of my WL books.  I was furious, and felt so bad someone had to sit around waiting for me.

I am having this issue with a Charlaine Harris book that got posted to me. It's been 3-4 days since it was posted to me. :(

Edit: They actually accepted it today. Makes me happy because these books don't get posted much (Lily Bard series).

I have to say I'm a bit glad that I'm not the only one this happens to!

Honestly, though I'm pretty laid back, so I understand taking a bit longer to mail out a book (as I'm usually just happy to be getting the book), but a pm to let let the receiver know that it is in fact going out, or at least what the hold up is, would be nice!

I never thought it was weird -- I usually just figure the sender posted several WL books at once and is hoping to arrange things so they only have to go to the PO once or something.  Or at least, I've done that.  You know when you post a book and it goes through several 48-hr waits before somebody actually takes it?  Well, if you post two and one gets taken right away, but the second is in limbo waiting for a taker, then you can wait to accept the request on the first one a bit in hopes that the second will find a taker in the next few days too.

I think I'd also routinely do that if I lived outside the lower 48 and I was gonna use media mail, except it'd be a bit of a lie and I'd mail them out asap.  That way they'd have 31 days to get there before being marked as missing instead of 26!

Edit to add:  Reading back over the first post, yeah, just posting WL books and then never accepting them at all is weird!   I was just thinking about waiting to accept the book until the 4th or 5th day!

I just had a wish list book that the sender canceled because she didn't have money to mail it. ? It is heavily wish listed, you had to just post it,why post it if you can't afford to mail it???

this just happend to me for the first time this week. the book was even marked will mail by 1-5-09.

but yesterday, i got a pbs notice saying it was cancelled. when you list a book, it clearly say's" by posting

this book you have intention of mailing it, failure to do so constitutes fraud"... now i understand that

sometimes things happen, like grandkids or small children lol. but from what i'm hearing this is becoming

a real problem here..

Well the book I originally started this bitch about finally "printed", but still hasn't "mailed".  I log on PBS quite often and try to take care of requests as quickly as possible because I know how it feels to be left waiting.  I do agree with Tracy and wonder why someone would post a book they couldn't mail!  This would drive me nuts-------------it's one thing I haven't encountered yet.

I had one that I was so excited to get posted to me... they post it, I auto request it and it sits. They must never have gotten back on to PBS? *sigh* Which is rough because it was one of those books that hardly ever comes along *sigh*

I have a book now that came up on my wishlist and I just checked the person's profile and their account is on hold???  Has that happened to anyone?

Yeah Debbie, that's happened to me before. But I think some users just put their account on hold to put their WL on hold while they catch up on reading what they already have. Then they take it off hold to post WL books & then go back on hold before a WL book pops up for them. I had no trouble though & still got the book in a timely manner  from the person who was on hold. Hopefully you will too.

Well, the other one I had (mentioned above) is now on its second person - thankfully it's one of those with not many on the wishlist so it didn't take long to get it again.

However, I'm working on another one now. This one, I'm betting, isn't as easy to get and what's more, someone from the forums offered me this book yesterday based on a previous conversation we had and I said I already had it coming to me.  Pfffffft!

I'm not a complaining person on here but geez, if you post a wishlist book keep an eye on it or, if you're waiting to click the accept button so you have more time to send the book, shoot the person a PM and just let them know.

Of course, you know the other side to the story?!?!  It's been documented well on here (lol) and it's why many of us prefer to post wishlisted books to forum buddies instead of into FIFO.  Guess it goes both ways ..... always two-lanes of traffic. :)

I know that recently I had to use the "mail later" button and clicked the latest date I could. I intended to get it in the mail ASAP, but could not due to a very bad cold I am now absorbed in (I feel like crap, but that is an improvement). I did get it out on the last date only due to my sweet and loving mother who ran to the PO for me. I felt bad that they had to wait so long, but it couldn't be helped. I'm sure they would have been understanding if I shot them a PM, but since my mom volunteered, I knew it'd be out on time. She's a great mom. :-) Just thought maybe some (?) might be having the same problem since it is flu/cold season.

if you're waiting to click the accept button so you have more time to send the book, shoot the person a PM and just let them know.

except you can't.  until you click the 'i can mail' button, there isn't a PM button, so you don't have any way of knowing who requested the book.

over the holidays, i got an order shortly before i was leaving for a couple of days, and i let the request sit until i got back since i didn't want to mail until after the new year.  i would happily have sent the person a PM if i'd been able to in order to let them know i was going to accept.  [the kicker there, and i felt awful about it, was that when i pulled out the book to mail and did a quick look at it, i discovered i'd missed a problem before and it wasn't postable after all so i had to decline.]

I think that if there might be a problem with a book:

1)  Accept

2)  PM to let requestor know about any problems or time delays and let them decide if they want to cancel.  They also have to option to cancel without loosing their place on WL.  I have done this before with small rips or if someone is a non-smoker because my husband smokes.  I do not smell the smoke because I live here, but someone else might.  I always give the final decision to requestor.

Sometimes people will post a wl book, then hold their account because they know someone will take it. I frequently put my account on hold or vacation, depending on my stamp situation, my money situation and whether or not I have any credits. (I hate getting a wl book offered to me when I have no credits and no money to buy credits.) I'll still post wl books if I know I can mail them, especially if the reason my account's on hold is a lack of credits.

Not to me!  The book that I started this whole bitch about still hasn't been mailed to me.  I was offered it 2X and am now on the list again as the last person can't sent it.  THAT IS 2X!!!  They always wait for the last minute.  This last one even printed the address label.

What do these people think.....................OH WAIT................they don't.
