Sorry in advance for yet another "Is This Postable" question - my first, but not the first for this forum! I really shouldn't read this forum because it makes me nervous now about any little imperfection! In my opinion, it is the story within that makes a book fabulous, but alas - there are those out there that would not agree! OK - enough commentary! Here is my book! I have a hard cover Caleb's Crossing that has over 500 people wishing for it - so, I know someone will be thrilled to have it! The person who gave it to me (a friend) read it on the beach so the bottom of the cover is a bit worn from resting on her wet bathing suit. The pages have no water damage - it is just the bottom of the hard cover. The rest of the book is perfect - she and I are the only two who have read it. So, while I would not hesitate to consider this book perfect to send and enjoy, I fear that someone out there will be annoyed by the slight scruffiness of the bottom cover.
Thoughts? Post and them PM the requestor? Thanks! |

If in doubt you can always post it in the book bazaar unpostable thread and ask for a credit since it is wishlisted. Then just describe the condition. I can't picture the book from your description. Your book might be fine to post or might not be. Is the book stained from the wet bathing suit? If the book got wet it is unpostable. Is the dust jacket worn or the actual book? (dust jackets aren't required unless there is an RC) |

Was in a similar situation with a highly-wishlisted book. Posted this in the bazaar and it was snatched up with in an hour. Feel free to copy/edit the text for your own post, if you decide to go this route.

Nicki - don't apologize for your post! I just learned something new, thanks to you. I have a similar WL book with a tiny water stain on it. I never realized you could ask for a credit for the book in the Book Bazaar. I've never really looked into using the bazaar, since I don't have a whole lot of books on my shelf and never needed to do a deal. But I'm going to try posting this book there. Just proves the old saying that no question is a stupid question. :) |

We are discussing the cover, not a dust jacket? If the damage is merely wear and scuffing from sand and a textured swimsuit fabric, the book is postable unless the wear is excessive. If the damage is water/liquid or a stain from sunscreen, the book is unpostable. With that many wishers it should move in the Book Bazaar, feel free to ask for a credit to cover your postage costs. ETA - I agree, don't apologize. Better to ask now than have a problem later, and other members may have a similar situation and learn from your question. ...from resting on her wet bathing suit... - if there is any liquid damage to the book anywhere it is not postable. Liquid and stains are really an all or nothing - pages, cover, everything but the dust jacket must be completely free of stains and liquid damage. Dust Jackets are not required unless there is a Requester Condition so if it was just the dust jacket damaged and not the book then it could be posted and just not sent to people with RCs asking for Dust Jackets.
I agree that the Bazaar may be the place to offer it. That way you can explain the damage and the requester will know exactly what the are getting. |

Just happened to me last week while I was reading poolside-- thought I was holding book up or that suit had dried. nope I won't post it, has just a little rub mark on front cover so I donated to our FOL.

Thanks for all the great feedback! I wish we could attach photos as that would make it much easier. There is NO water damage or stains to any of the pages of this book. Just the bottom edge of the binding / hard cover is worn a bit - but knowing that there are some folks out there that are seeking pristine books, I won't risk losing my book and the point and try out the bazaar. Thanks again!!
