Hi everyone.  I received a book in the Damaged Books virtual box.  This is a swap game in which only unpostable books are swapped, hence the name "damaged books."  As far as I can tell the only thing that anyone might consider objectionable is that there is a name written on the upper edge of the pages.  Is this postable?  I feel kind of weird about posting it, is that reasonable?

If the writing is on 'text' (story) pages, the book is unpostable.  Names written inside the cover or on non text/story pages probably do not make the book unpostable. Where  writing occures on the page is irrelevant.   Members have been known to use postable books in unpostable games.

If I understand correctly, the name is written on the top edge, i.e. not on an actual page, but where for example a remainder mark would be.  I vote postable, if that's the case.

Slightly related - I ordered an unpostable WL book off the thread in the BB,  and for the life of me I cannot figue out what's wrong with it!

Could the edges be sanded to remove the name? I use a medium coarse finger nail file. But, it should be postable as is.

Caviglia, you do understand correctly.  In fact, now that I am thinking about it, I posted and sent a book with names written on all the edges!  Nothing within the text, though, and this one is the same.  I guess I can post it.

Writing on the edges of the pages is postable, as ex-library & bookcrossing books often stamps there, no difference between them.

I also do the damaged VB and have had people PM me asking why it the book I sent was "unpostable".  Sometimes it's just somethign minor that I'm worried I'll be called out on by a picky receiver. It's just easier to put it in the damaged VB and exchange it for another book.  Like right now there's a hardcover in the damaged VB just because it has no dust jacket.  Hardcovers are postable without dust jackets but the player just decided she'd rather not worry about sending it out dust jacket-less.

I've also posted books I've received from teh damaged VB onto another book site after I've read them.

I recently received a heavily posted WL book in a Unpostable game.  I can't really see anything wrong with it other than it's very well read.  I could probably get a credit for it if I offered it in the Love/Romance forum or the BB.  I decided ot use it in another WL unpostable swap instead that happened to start right after I received it.  So don't feel guilty if you think the book is postable and send it out for a credit after you read it.  Just because the other member chose to put it in the damaged VB doesn't mean you have to if the book is technically postable.
