Sorry for asking this but I am still new here. I am pretty sure the answer is no, they aren't postable... but want to make sure!

I have a box of books that were in storage for years. It seems as if some kind of marker leaked inside the box at some point. Almost all of these books have 1 or 2 black marker dots on the fore edge. They are otherwise in perfect condition. It says no stains of any kind but is that only on the text or does it make these unpostable?

Thanks!

Melissa,

Many books posted here have a 'remainder mark', which is okay.  If I read your question correctly, then your books are postable if they just have a couple of marker dots.

If I am understanding correctly, the mark(s) are on the edge of the pages?

1. Does it appear somebody deliberately marked the book edge (such as the already mentioned 'remainder').  This does not make a book unpostable.

2. Or possibly like the books were in a backback and smushed up against a broken or uncapped marker (and yes, I've received books like this and the marks are much larger, splochy, and seep deeper into the page).  The ones I've received were marked badly enough I considered them 'stained'.

3. Hopefully the books were not wet, thus causing marks to transfer from other sources...books that have been wet are not postable.

You can post pics for us if you like.

Books cannot be dirty or stained, on any pages. However, writing and marker, bookstore stamps, etc. Is allowed as long as it is not on text pages.
