Hi!

About to send my first book out and the help documents are confusing me a bit. Is it ok if I print out my own postage and wrap it up without printing out the label?

TIA!

Welcome to PBS, Jennifer.

You can use your own postage, either printed out from another online vendor (eg paypal, stamps.com, USPS, etc etc) or even use old-fashioned stamps.  Please just keep in mind:

  • you still need to press "Print wrapper" to get the address of the recipient. You don't actually have to print out the label, or the page that pops up from "If you need to hand write the address, click here"
  • if you use only old-fashioned stamps and the package is over 13oz, you need to pass it over to a postal clerk (no mailing in blue boxes or from your own mailbox)
  • the best packaging (in my opinion) consists of a waterproofing layer and making sure the book doesn't move around in its container/envelope/wrapping.

Good luck and PM me if you have any questions.

Enjoy PBS!:)

I have very little to add to what Sophia said above - but, if you are buying electronic postage and tracking from the USPS you will get your credit when the person receives your book.  If you are anxious for credits ( as I was when I joined :)) you can buy PBS delivery confirmation and get yur postage as soon as it is scanned by the USPS.

Welcome!
