Can someone please tell me if postal rates are going up in January?  I thought I saw that they are for first class.  Thanks for the help.

The latest list I saw did not list any Media Mail increases, but I don't know if that means they dropped them, or just that the list was incomplete.  (It would be nice if we had some idea of what they will be before they actually kick in. :-( )

Media Mail    Proposed

1   2.47 1.73 2.07
2   2.89 2.15 2.49
3   3.31 2.57 2.91
4   3.73 2.99 3.33
5   4.15 3.41 3.75
6   4.57 3.83 4.17
7   4.99 4.25 4.59
8   5.39 4.65 4.99
9   5.79 5.05 5.39
10   6.19 5.45 5.79
11   6.59 5.85 6.19
12   6.99 6.25 6.59

17   8.99 8.25 8.59
18   9.39 8.65 8.99
19   9.79 9.05 9.39

Not sure if this will format correctly, and it is just the rates up to 19 pounds.

We would use only the single piece rates.

Hmmmm, that's a little more than I thought they would be going up.  Especially since FC increases are not much... I need to buy tons of Forever stamps before Jan 22nd!  Still, it's much cheaper than just about anything out there, so can't complain.

Does anyone know when the proposed increase will be finalized?  Or is it just "suprise!" when you go to mail something on the 22nd?

What is needed to classify for the presort options?

Presort options require a yearly permit fee in addition to the postage.  Designed for large mailers like Amazon or B&N.  Mail must be presorted by zip code or carrier route.  Must usually be dropped off at a Bulk Mail Acceptance Unit - not your local delivery station.  The permit fee is probably close to $200 per year - so unless you are sending huge quantities of packages, not a good option for the occasional mailer.

Thank goodness for all those forever stamps!  But I will have to get some add-ons for my postcard stamps (planning to send postcards to all my PBS friends who aren't going on the cruise with us!)

Has anyone  heard about "first class parcel" rates?  I have been using that a lot for less heavy books, under 6-7 oz. because it hs=as been loess than the
$2.41 for the first pound of Media Mail.
