My new idea to resolve the problem of books being posted by title or author, or anything else by ISBN:

Some of you have seen the starting page to edit book data. It looks like this: http://www.paperbackswap.com/volunteers/book_edits/index.php

I would be interested in a page similar to that for posting books. Whatever "post this book" link you click on it takes you to a page that says "Please type the ISBN of the book you would like to post" and has a box to type it into-- and has one other button saying something like "My book has no ISBN" which can lead to the "post a no ISBN book" page.

... so your first step for posting a book HAS to be the ISBN number. Depending how far TPTB decided to take it, the next page says "Is this the title of your book?" ("Yes" moves you to the next page, "no" moves you to the "post a no ISBN book" page)

Next page: "Is this the author of your book?"...

Of course, I seldom use the "post an individual book" page, but members could "earn the right" to use the "more advanced" posting pages such as "post multiple books" or "post a list of ISBN numbers". (Post at least 'x' number of individual books by ISBN, pass an online test.... something like that)

[Not that books being posted improperly has been a huge issue for me. I have only received a couple which were posted wrong. My brain just has nothing better to do this morning than to puzzle out solutions to issues I don't have a problem with. I guess I should go read a book and give it better fuel to burn.]

I like that, Kalualani.  I think you should send this as feedback to the PBS Team! (Click on -- don't hover over -- the Help Center to find the "contact the pbs team" option.)  I like the idea that the only way you could start is with an ISBN, or by saying that your book doesn't have an ISBN.
