Does anyone know why we can't post baby soft books on here?  I have two that my son no longer is interested in and I was going to post them but I keep getting a message that says they can't be posted on here.

I'm thinking that you might be trying to post them with a UPC number instead of an ISBN.  You get that message is you put in a wrong number.  If they don't have an ISBN number and they can be posted (I'm not sure about that but I've never seen where they can't be posted) you might have to do a manual posting under post a book without an ISBN.

Theresa F,

I am not familiar with baby soft books, and do not know what the problem is that you are seeing. Can you be more specific about the error message that says they can't be posted here?

Books on this site must either be posted with an ISBN or posted without an ISBN. The PBS rules for Is my book ok to post here? (in the Pamphlets/Booklets/leaflets without ISBNs section) state that

"Children's books do not count as booklets or leaflets, even if they are short.

  • Children's books can be expected to have short page lengths and the booklet/leaflet designations do not apply."

Books posted without an ISBN will result in the creation of a unique system-generated six-digit "ISBN-13" assigned to them and will not generate the error message you describe. The error you describe sounds like something you' might get when entering an invalid number in the ISBN field while posting.

I have a feeling they might be viewed as more of a toy than as a book. Hence, the UPC code rather than an ISBN. If you're really curious to find out - messaging the site owners might not be a terrible idea. Unless, of course, one of the tour guides has a definitive answer.

I think I know what books you are talking about and I think Caviglia is correct.  They're probably considered a toy and not a book that can go media mail.

I agree that it is probably ID'd as a toy or toy with a book.

It has to do with the way the database service identifies the 'book type' or binding.  Even though we can list/post MP3-CDs, if they are identified simply as MP3 the system rejects them and they have to be posted as A Book Without an ISBN.

If these are indeed books, then they can be posted that way.  If you are unsure, you can always take one to your local post office and ask if it meets the requirements for Media Mail.  A toy would not...
