This is just a mini-vent. I've had a WL on my list for quite a long time. Twice now the book has been posted, left to time out, and then canceled. This has been done by the same person.  Luckily my book went back on the WL but I'm afraid she's going to do it again. If I click on her name, her bookshelf doesn't come up (maybe on hold?), so I'm not sure what's going on. If she does it again, would I be out of line to comment to the powers that be? Just to be clear, my world isn't falling apart cause I'm not getting the book, but how many times should a person post, let it time out, cancel, and repost before it's too much?

Ugh, I hate it when they do that!  I would definitely mention it to TPTB if it happens again.

I hate this too. I have a WL book right now waiting for the member. I have waited since February for this book. I don't think I'm going to get it or I'm going to go round and round like you are. I would mention this to TPTB. I'm going to if this happens to me.Good luck and let us know what happens.

I just had someone post a WL book, waited for 4 days and then canceled saying she sold the book. What? Why post it if you already sold it or were trying to sell it???? How aggravating!

Just a week ago I had a book I've had on my WL for over a year come up and offered to me which I eagerly accepted only to have the "sender" PM me about the high cost of shipping.  I got the feeling that he wanted me to chip in an extra credit for his postage costs because he was unemployed and couldn't believe how expensive mailing out that book would cost.  I didn't offer to chip in and told him that if he couldn't afford the postage then he needed to put his account on hold until he could.  So he did and cancelled my order.  That's life.

I am sometimes amazed at how inconsiderate people can be.  I understand your frustration, Mary.  I agree with Paula, that if this continues I would report it to TBTB.   Christina, I bet you were ticked when the seller said the book had been sold! I know I would have been!  Oh well, thank goodness we have more wonderful members than bad ones!

Unpostable copy of Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn.  Order any book from my shelf and I will include it free! Just PM me with any questions!

If it happens again I would report it.  I've had two WL books offered to me in the last week only to get a PM from the senders telling me about "damage" to the book (dog chewed on the spine of one and coffee stains on the other) and asking if I still wanted it.  I thanked them for letting me know and asked them to cancel the request.  Coffee canceled within a couple of hours.  Dog let the offer time out so I sat in limbo for 5 extra days before I went back on the WL.  I have a huge TBR pile so it's not like I don't have plenty to read, but why screw people around like that.   (sigh)

I can only think of one reason the 2nd person waited for it to time out, Alisa.  She/he may not have access to the internet daily.  They may have to go to the library.  Worse yet, they may have had a crisis (like one member whose house burned to the ground recently). They may have written the PM and then not been able to get back to the site before then - did you check to see if they'd read your reply to their PM?

Wow, you are far more...nice, patient, understanding...than I.  Forty-eight hours later would have found me sending copies of all PMs in to the Team.  I hate passive-agressive BS.  "Oh, so you won't give me a credit for my damaged, unpostable WL book?  Fine, I'll just leave it sit and make you wait..."  Unh, uh.  No way.

ed to add - before I get slammed in here - yes, there could have been an emergency, but they broke the rules by posting it in the first place so I really wouldn't be inclined to cut them much slack.  I hate when people post damaged WL books a if the fact that they are WL'ed somehow excuses the damage...(can you tell I have a peeve about that?)

I just mentally rolled my eyes and said "whatever".  I checked her profile and she's been a member since 12/2005 so it's not like she doesn't know what she's doing.  When I finally made it back to the WL I'm now #2, so I'll get the book eventually.

Alisa - go to your Messages tab and then got to your From Me tab and then click on "unread".  If  check comes up on the left in the box - it's been unread.

Thanks Ruth.  That's cool and I'd never noticed it before.  And yes it's been read.
