If you love historical novels you will love this one - - the Land Run of 89 in Oklahoma is the backdrop - - the heroine is escaping a cruel master who raped her to get a child on her since his wife was barren - - someone helped her escape and she fears that her former master will send someone after her. Young, inexperienced, pregnant, and afraid of men she finds a protector, only to realize that he is a hired gun whose name she recognizes - - has her master sent him to drag her back? And that's just a small piece of the plot!

This book could easily have been written by Carolyn Jewel or Julie Ann Long--the prose is that good. The setting that incorporates old Louisana history and the first New Orleans Mardi Gras parade is an intricate part of the relationship of the leads. The best aspect of this book though, is the intense experience of the conflict between sensual attraction and the history of enmity that exists between them.
