Have you been prepping for the Big Loser contest? Whatcha been doing?

I weeded my TBR of about 500 books. I'm now down 64 books, most of which I'll post here over the weekend following the 1st.

I've got only one physical book coming in (NM what I bought for the Kindle yesterday), making me 63 books in the black. 'Course, I dunno what Deb's math will do with that. LOL!

THANK YOU, Valli! cheeky

I pulled 16 of my heavily posted books I didn't think I could get rid of soon and dropped them off at the Goodwill yesterday. Yes, I forgot to wait until Feb 1st because I am a ding-dong. Aargh. I just give up, lol.

I did make a decision to NOT stop in at my favorite thrift store, the one where one entire side of the store is nothing but books, even though I had to go to a place in the same shopping center. Since every time I go to this thrift store, I get at least 20 books, that should count for something. Well, actually, since the contest hasn't started, it doesn't count for anything at all.

Well, I guess you could say that I haven't done anything at all to prepare for this challenge.

I went to my favorite UBS and bought a bunch of books that I've been looking for.  I don't know how I'm going to stay out of there after tomorrow.  Oh, wait! I'm doing the Biggest Books Gained challenge. OK, everyone carry on.

Valli - don't worry, I did the same exact thing with a bunch of WL'd books that I had either finished or didn't want anymore.  Then of course I looked at the people's WL and asked if they wanted books off their WL I had. lol  While it wasn't a crazy amount, it still was before 020111.

ETA: AND I went on a spending spree on the internet and ordered The Kingmaking; Pendragon's Banner and pre-ordered I Am the Chosen King.  They will ALL be here next month!  crying

Well, since we're using the binary system for TBR books lost, Genie now has a minus 11111 -- so let's just declare her and her teammate (ahem, yours truly) the winners and be done with this ridiculous challenge. Then we can all go back to normal -- or what passes for normal in this forum.

I've just been contemplating some of my series books that I think I may never read, deciding if they can go or not.  I'm also trying to think of the best way of keeping track of my books in and out.

Genie feel free to take a peek at my WL too!  I'm in the "it will be what it's gonna be" camp and definitely not going to pass up the opportunity to acquire any books on my WL!

I think I'm going to be in the 'what will be " camp too, Christa! I just mainly want to put the skids on my ordering. Most of the books on my TBR pile have already been culled so that the ones remaining are ones that I really want to read. That means nothing is going to happen fast in this camp!

500 books Genie!!! That makes my head swim! DON'T YOU SAY A WORD VALLI!!!!! devil I can't even imagine the number that you have to go through!!

I did find myself wide awake at 3 am and wondering what else I could sacrifice from the TBR pile. I looked at my bookshelf and gasped when I saw that I only had 17 books on there. All those requests recently...... so, I broke down and added more that I don't think will go. Of course, that;s what I thought about the last batch I sent out!! crying

I weeded some books out and am mailing them out this week to build up some credits.  Since I see you are all weeding out your TBRs and getting ready to post the unwanted ones, I'm thinking I'll need about 30 credits built up in the next week or so... cheeky

ETA:  I think I'm going to do a deal on my bookshelf.  They are mostly mysteries though.

About the only prep work I did, was to reorganize my office/library. So that two book cases are now completely TBR. My goal is to only have one book case by the end of the year.  I currently have 210 books on my TBR.

BTW, it is really annoying me that my books are out of order now, it is sooo disorganized. I think that may be my motivation for reading. The more i read, the more i can put back where they belong!!

In the end, it only matters whether we have   more +   or more -   right?  Am I crazy or can we just count # of    + vrs -?

I am going to count that way. I am not counting books on shelf, just counting the ones in and the ones out.

So I am

0 +

0 -

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

I think I got this idea from someone else's post. The way I see it is (for example)

start with 100 books

then

45  +

45 -           and = 0000

OR

start counting the + and -  ONLY and it will end up the same.

Someone please tell me that I am right or wrong.

+45

-45  =  000000

Thanks,

Mary

Yes Mary, you are right.  We don't have to count our TBR books, luckily!
