Ecellent sourcebook for a multitude of illnesses, symptoms, and general complaints. Skillfully blends various healing modalities to create a menu of choices for healing. This edition revised and expanded. At the very top in its class. If one is interested in taking an active and effective role in their own healing, this guide is most highly recommended.
Excellent, excellent book. My doctor told me I had hypothyroidism and said I had to take synthroid forever. I did not want to already be taking a prescription med in my mid-30s so I got myself on a hypothyroid regiment taken from this book. I did not take everything the book recommended but MOST of the ones recommended by the CRUCIAL section. In a couple of months my thyroid levels were within normal limits.
Then I had tonsilitis. I tried to get rid of it by just waiting it out and taking zinc pills. But after a month, I caved in and got antibiotics. After the week-long course, the sore throat was mostly gone, but not completely. So I put together a supplement regiment based on this book. A month later, I was completely normal.
This book has been helpful in supporting my own immune system. It's not a fix-all, you have to use sound judgement. Obviously, it won't fix kidney failure, but if you have weak kidneys, it gives you some supplement ideas that could support your body.
Also, certain supplements you have to use your common sense. To help my tonsilitis, it suggested colloidal silver. But I did my own research and felt that this supplement might cause more harm than good, and excluded that in my own supplement program.
This book is copyright date: 1990. They have copyrighted a later version. It is a guide to dealing gwith health disorders through nutritional, herbal and supplemental therapies. Written by a medical doctor and a certified nutritionist.
This book is an indispensable part of my family library. I use it to look up herbs/supplements/foods to help heal various problems rather than getting a prescription drug. Or we use it as a way to supplement needed medication. Diseases are listed in alphabetical order. A page or two is given to explaining the disease. Then supplements and herbs are listed in descending order of importance (Ie. Essential, important, helpful, etc.) as well as dosages. My mother always had a copy in her house and now I have one in mine!
My journey to better health got a kick-start when I found this book years ago. I've purchased each new edition, now using the Fourth, though I keep the third edition as well. Have given away dozens of copies. Anyone who is ready to be in charge of their own health and wants to know more can benefit from this resource. I'm grateful to the Balches for their devotion to the concept of better health for all.
It never ceases to amaze me how herbs and supplements used correctly can solve and prevent health problems without a lot of visits to the doctor and expensive meds with side effects.
A very helpful book. Covers not only condition, the herbs or supplements needed ( and in the correct amount) but also reccomendations your diet and other health habits. I liked it because if needed it did not rule out some regular meds or help from you doctor. With rising medical costs this could save families a lot of money and do it the natural way.

I have always gone to this book as a reference when it was available and now having my own copy will avail much more referencing. Recently used it while speaking to someone about what was ailing her and was helpful in adding to our discussion.
I just saw the latest edition in the store so I give the book 4 stars instead of 5 because I'm sure the latest edition may have some good tidbits of info that my edition may not.
