Historical erotic Romance by Leda Swann. Caroline is the daughter of a Speculator who killed himself after losing all his assetts to bad investments, leaving 6 minor children. Caroline is the eldest. Her fiance leaves her, when learning that she is penniless. Caroline agrees to become the mistress to a wealthy man, Nicolas, in order to ensure the futures of her siblings. Nicholas wants more than just to have Caroline's body, he wants her heart. This is a very romantic, very sweet romance. I loved it.

Leda Swann is a fine writer, but this is not her best. Historical erotic romance with a dark undertone. Although there is the classic misunderstanding based on the main characters insecurities, I didn't really get invested in the relationship. Fine effort.

Erotic romance. It's rather disturbing in my opinion, and not very well written either. I initially got disgusted with it and put it away, but finally hauled it back out again and muddled through it. Plot-wise, it's nothing I haven't seen before, but it's much more sexually explicit and deals with some rather disturbing subject matter. Not for fans of light & flowery romance.
