Johnnie is nine, an orphan placed as a foster child with a couple who live in the Australian outback. He isn't exactly what they had in mind; he is "cheeky and lazy, cowardly and stubborn." And he holds the key to a mystery - but no one will believe him. Lots of suspense; Carlon is a gifted writer.
