A set in a small town, a dying newspaper, a young computer expert hired to modernize and update files runs into a 20 year old mystery. A quick but hold your interest read. Great to read on a long plane ride as I did. Time did fly by as I kept absorbed in the story.

My Cat gave her opinion as well, she hates it when I won't put a book down to pay attention to her!

'The Price of Silence' is a well-written, believable mystery set in modern day Oregon. A young married couple move to the small town of Brindle where the wife, Todd, works at the small, weekly-run newspaper. Her husband Barney, is finishing his doctorate. What appears to be a perfect place for the couple to get on their feet financially turns into a town full of nasty rumors, deceit, and worst of all: a serial kidnapper who has been taking children for 20 years. Todd and Barney search to find out why the town turns a blind eye to the events that are going on around them, even though the town officals threaten to put the blame on Barney.
I enjoyed this book emmensely. This book has what I love about mysteries. I found the characters likeable, the plot well-paced, and the settings believable. The events take place in a small town with a select amount of suspects. It is not graphic in violence, and is NOT filled with 'cutesy' side stores involving pets, kids, baking, or almost-romances involving the main characters. Just a good, solid story. 4 of 5 stars.

In dire need of a job, Todd Fielding accepts the offer to work at The Brindle Times - even is she has to move to the lackluster town of Brindle. As she settles into her new home, Todd is fully prepared to adapt to the boredom of small-town life, but her preconceptions of Brindle are completely shattered when a local girl disappears. Even more shocking to Todd is the town's sheer indifference to the incident. No one - not even the police - appears particularly concerned.

When Todd looks deeper into the story, she discovers that five other girls have "run away" from Brindle under strange circumstances over the past twenty years. As she sets out to uncover the history of a town that has cloaked itself in secrecy for far too long, evidence of manipulation and cold-blooded murder begin to unravel. And Todd may be the next victim to pay the deadly price of silence.

Mysterious disappearances of young girls, but no one talks about. Why is the mystery that drives Todd to figure out who it is stealing the young girls. But can she find the killer before they kill her?
