I didn't enjoy this nearly as much as the Harrowing. I just didn't get a chill from it because the threat was too vague through most of the book. I wasn't sure how the "wrongness" was going to manifest and so I wasn't sure where to focus my concern. By the end, I just wanted to know what direction the author had been trying to go. (Although this could be seen as a doctoral thesis about what's really wrong with our politicians.)

Very good book. It is fast paced and written in short and intense scenes (a very movie-ish sort of way -- the author is also a screenwriter). It's not super scary, but just enough to be creepy. Thumbs up for me!

I really enjoyed this book. For a short novel (less than 300 pages) the beginning was a little slow and the ending was a little more open-ended that I would have hoped. I liked this take on the Faustian plot, but I preferred her first novel (The Harrowing) to this one. Still, I will continue to look out for her books.

I picked up The Price the day it was released, and once again, Ms. Sokoloff has shown readers how truly adept she is at creating atmospheric thrillers. The pace was fast and well-plotted, and the character development of Will Sullivan was very well done - readers are made privy to his thoughts and fears, making him a protagonist that is easy to care about. The story itself was disturbing and never predictable, and when the novel ended, it did so in a manner fully in-keeping with the overall menacing mood of the piece.
The Harrowing was an impressive debut, and The Price illustrates quite well that Ms. Sokoloff is an exceedingly talented author who is a welcome addition to the worlds of horror, suspense, and psychological thrillers.
