The Pride of Lions was first published ten years ago. It is now being re-released much to the delight of Canham fans everywhere! Catherine Ashbrooke is determined to wed Lieutenant Hamilton Garner, and even the half-naked trespasser she discovers on her father's estate doesn't change her mind. Believing the tall, dark stranger with the midnight eyes is a poacher, Catherine is surprised when he appears at her eighteenth birthday party -- as Raefer Montgomery, prosperous English merchant. She flirts with him to make Hamilton jealous, but when Raefer kisses her, Hamilton insists on a duel. Hamilton is wounded and Catherine's father is so incensed by the incident that he forces Catherine and Raefer to marry. Afterward, Catherine is forced to spend the night in a seedy tavern. There she discovers she's married not to a proper English gentleman, but a Scottish Jacobite Spy and murderer, Alex Cameron, and that they are traveling not to London, but to Scotland. Catherine tries to escape, but is caught by Alex who promises her freedom once they reach Scotland. Once in Scotland, Catherine is drawn into the lives of the Camerons and their deadly blood feud with the Campbells. She finds passion in Alex's embrace, but can she find love with this rebel? Marsha Canham rewrote this classic novel reducing the bodice-ripper tone and making the Scottish brogue more readable. Lovers of her rich, elegant writing and thrilling stories will treasure The Pride of Lions. Alex is a hero to make readers' hearts pound as they turn the pages, and Catherine, while spoiled, grows steadily throughout the course of the novel. I will be standing in line at the bookstore when The Blood of Roses is released, in June, 1998, for the conclusion of this Highland tale.Marsha Canham keeps the reader on the edge of their seat with this tale of high adventure! A thrilling romance set against the tapestry of Jacobite Scotland! Alex Cameron will make readers' hearts pound as they turn the pages!
