I have a small paperback book that weighs 2.4 ounces.  When I go to print the label, PBS says it weighs 8.0 ounces.  According to PBS it should cost $2.07 to mail (between 1-3 ounces).  However, when I change the weight to 2.4 ounces it says $2.07, but when I change it to anything between 2.5 to 2.9 ounces to account for the wrapping, it moves the postage to $2.24.  Has anyone else noticed this?  Would I be safe in putting the $2.07 postage on?  (I have a postage scale so I know it's not the 8.0 ounces).  Thanks for your input and help.  Kris

If I were you, I would weigh the book and wrapping, and then go to the post office website and calculate postage there just to be on the safe side.

When it's less expensive to send First Class, PBS will automatically give you the less expensive rate.

For Media Mail, up to 1 pound is $2.53.

First Class 1-3 ounces ------ $2.07

First Class between 3 & 4 ounces -----$2.24.

So you should be fine with $2.07 in postage.

Sounds like the system is adding in more weight for your packaging. If you are going to account for the packaging weight yourself then make sure you have the box for "wrapped book weight" checked and not "unwrapped book weight". You should be able to go all the way up to 2.99 oz without the shipping charge increasing as long as you have the correct box checked. Just be sure that your book does indeed weigh <3.0 oz after it is wrapped.

Thanks for taking the time to help.  Nicole, I learned something new today.  I never noticed that option for "wrapped book weight".  The solved everything right there.  Have a great weekend.  Kris
