Today I took my books to a PO I usually don't go to. They would not take the paperback I had with delivery conf on it as the delivery conf was in their system as "first class".  The book also weighed over an oz more than what was in the system (15.8 system, 16.4 @PO), otherwise I would have just sent it first class.

What's the deal?  I printed it out from here as media mail as usual.  With the fees to transfer money into our PBS accounts now, I'm not particularly amused to lose 27 cents, especially since now this book will be delayed until I can next get out to the PO next week.

The DC for other book I printed out at the same time as this one (to go media) was accepted into their system just fine.

I'm sorry Michelle but I don't quite follow your question which considering the week I've had at work and especially the last two days could be entirely my fault...

What do you mean by "in their system"?  The PO's system?  That doesn't make sense to me, could you be more specific about what happened?

The PO I went to stated that when she entered the DC for my book, it said that it could not do so as the DC # in the PO's system stated that it was for FIRST CLASS instead of the media mail that I had selected using the PBS system.  Is that possible?  Or was I being fed a line to get me to send the book priority?

I told her just to send the book first class if that was what the DC number was "allocated" for.  "Oh, we can't do that.  Your book is just over 16oz."  *sigh*

So I have a book sitting here that was supposed to go out media mail today with delivery confirmation.  Only the post office tells me that I can't send it with the delivery conf I have on it b/c their system tells them that it has to go first class.  But I can't send it first class because it weighs a tad over 16oz...

I did not put electronic postage on it as I was unable to verify the weight.  [my spidey sense was telling me it was more than the 15+ oz pbs had it listed as.]

First Class ends at 13 oz, anything heavier that would be considered First Class material or anything you want to send as First Class will go Priority.  It's the breaking point between classes.

DC numbers are not alloted to any class so I'm confused about what she might have met by that.  You should have been able to send it Media Mail.  This is a first for me.

Sorry I can't be of more help, I guess you need to talk to her supervisor to find out what she's talking about.

I'd say don't go to that PO again. Me thinks she didn't know what she was talking about!!

Yeah, that's what I thought, Steve, that she was feeding me a line of crap about the DC.  I found it quite odd that the other book went through just fine.  [I've also discovered the annoying factoid that DC Barcodes won't scan at the PO if I've printed them from my inkjet at home.  No prob with the laserjet at work.]  Thanks for confirming my suspicion.  :)

The PO I used is down where I used to live!  I was down for an appointment with my no-longer-ex and figured I'd mail them while I was out down there.  Never liked that PO while I was a local.  The PO near me now is full of nice smiling chatty people!  I'm going to be sad to move away from them when I go to Texas.

Since I couldn't make it to the PO again until the end of this week, I went ahead and reprinted the wrapper with electronic postage (as I now knew that it weighed more than a pound).  From work.  :D
