This isn't something that I send out for PBS, but I thought I would ask here anyway.  I packaged up some books and printed the postage out through paypal and attached it to the box I was mailing.  I took it by the post office this morning and checked just a few minutes ago to see what the status of the package is now because they didn't scan the bar code while I was there today.  They just put the package aside, I assume to scan when they had more time or something, but when I clicked on the delivery confirmation number, it still just mentions that I printed the postage on the 23rd.  How long will it take for it to say that it was accepted at my local post office?  Should I be worried or does it take a few days for the info to show up online?

Thanks.

It doesn't have to be scanned on acceptance.  It will be scanned at some point in it's travels.  As soon as that happens, it will get updated on the USPS website during their overnight processing.

Thanks for your responses.  I was just wondering since someone sent me some books on Monday with a tracking number also, and it says the package was accepted in the town she mailed it from the same day, but mine didn't do that, so I was wondering about it.  I will try not to worry and give it another day or so and see what turns up.

If you go to the counter and buy the postage there they will usually scan it to get the .19 DC fee added ot the postage.  If you just drop it off with postage on it then they don't really need to scan it there.  Some do and some just put it in the bin to go to the sorting center. Where it may or may not be scanned.  Any scans before delivery are just bonus scans.

This happens to me a lot.   A couple of times, when I dropped the books off at a PO I asked if they would scan it (prepaid postage w/DC)  They said that it DC so that they couldn't (or wouldn't) for Media mail or ParcelPost - only Priority or Express.

As I live in Hawaii, it can also take 2-3 weeks before anything shows up on the USPS scan, usually when the book has arrived in CA by slow boat across the Pacific.  However it is a Delivery Scan so may not be scanned until it is delivered.

And sometimes my mail carrier will scna it when he collects it from my home mailbox.....

Guess it just depends on where you live and how the local USPS workers process it.

Oh yeah Hawaii is the worst, I remember ordering something from eBay that took several weeks, and had no scans until the end!
