I have a minor but annoying problem related to printing wrappers.  Whenever I print the wrapper, the CutePDF printer driver is used, so it prints to a file, which I then have to open and print to my default printer.

The CutePDF printer is not my default printer.

This happens even if I print to the default printer from Firefox just before printing the wrapper.

This problem does not occur for any other application, nor from Firefox.

Anybody seen this?

When you print a wrapper, does the Print dialog appear, or does it just automatically print to the default printer?

Is there any way to tell PBS what printer you want to use?

It's no big deal, but it would be nice to just click the Print Wrapper button and have wrapper print.

Thanks,

Al

I think you may have the CutePDF application configured as your default file handler for PDF files.

When I click print wrapper, Adobe Reader 8 launches in its own window, not the browser, and the downloaded file is automatically opened in there. I have Windows XP and Adobe Reader is the default app for PDF files. If you want to check your settings (assuming you are a Windows user) right click on the Start button and choose Explore. In the explorer window, choose Tools / Options, then select the File Types tab. Scroll down to PDF and click on it. The lower half of the window will tell you what application opens this file type and there's a button there to change to a different one.

There's no way to bypass the file downloading and make the PDF open in the browser itself. The only other alternative is to use the backup wrapper.

Thanks for the help, Cathy.  The Adobe reader is the default handler for PDF files on my system also.

But I think you've solved it for me.  When you click on Print Wrapper Now, it actually just downloads a PDF file, which you then open in Adobe Reader (or it happens automatically), and print out.  Is that right?

I had assumed that clicking that button would automatically send the document to the printer, so when the Save dialog appeared, I'd assumed it was using CutePDF.

If I choose the "please click here to manually download it" it opens in Adobe and I can print it from there.

So my problem was that I thought "Print Wrapper Now" meant "Print Wrapper Now" rather than, "Download file that you can open in Adobe Reader and Print Soon."

Thanks again for the help.

Yep, you've got it! It sounds like the save dialog is coming from your browser. I have my browser set to not ask that question.
