When Richard Barker hears that his brother Jonathan, a British soldier, has been killed in war-torn Cyprus, he is numbed with grief. But when he discovers that jonathan was murdered by three Greek-Cypriot brothers because of his love for a beautiful young schoolteacher, Maria, his grief flares into lust for vengeance.
Through Cyprus and Greece, in an increasingly desperate battle of nerves and cunning, Richard and Maria track down and confront their first two victims. But the youngest and most dangerous of the three, Stephanides, to whom Maria has been promised in marriage eludes them. It soon becomes clear that Richard must tackle him alone.
Back in London, through the covert world of gay bars, Richard pursues his quarry until his vengence is finally consummated in a searing encounter of deceit and destruction, only to find that, now alone, he has become the target of a counter-vendetta, the ultimate victim of his own revenge.
