A young woman captivates the imagination of a young wealthy American who rescues her from a convent under attack. She is accompanied by a older woman who has tried to poison her husband and has been in hiding. Great book. Many twists and turns...a great Rex Stout mystery

The forward says it is the first novel to broach the country where Nero Wolfe spent his youth, how his marriage ended and his attitude toward women in general. He is one of my favorite detectives and this was disappointing because the areas were barely addressed. However the story is somewhat interesting.
