I hit a yard sale this weekend and bought about 75 books (all but a few postable) for $8.50-what I had on me. Also, after I looked through them, I found a college algebra book CR 1940 with a handwritten cheat-sheet and a college calculus book CR 1928 with some newspaper clippings from the 30's!! What fun!

Have you check ABE (or other places) to see if they're worth anything? :-)

Not being snarky - I'm jealous. Yard sales in my area - I don't think anyone *reads*! Nary a book to be found. :-(

I do hit the library sales though!

Last year at the church book sale I went through some free stuff they were going to throw away. Found foreign language instructions and songs in Polish, an old (1920) book of charts for something called heliocentric astrology that I posted and some lady in Utah snapped up the first day, and one real jewel by the Texas Historical Society titled Built In Texas. Like Chuck once said in a song, just goes to show you never can tell. :)

"What's ABE?"

Answered by PM, but in case anyone else is interested ...

ABE is http://www.abebooks.com/ ... you can get a pretty good idea what a 1st edition or an "oldie" is going for. (And then I boasted a little bit about my 'finds' <G>)
