but i'm fairly new, please cut me some slack?

Anyways, I noticed that all the wrappers I print automatically print as first class, and i was just wondering if there was a way to set it to print as the cheaper media mail.  Hope the answer isn't completely obvious.

Thanks!

Hi Celeste - This is not a stupid question, it's a good one.  Your books are probably small, yes?  If they weigh 6 oz or less, it is actually cheaper to send them first class.  The PBS system knows this and so it defaults to first class in that instance.  However, I would always advise you to double-check the weight of your books before mailing them as sometimes the PBS system is not accurate on weights.  If you find that it weighs more than 6 oz, just cross out "first class" and write "media mail" and add the proper postage.

When you go to print the wrapper, it displays how much the book weighs.  If the book weighs more than 6 oz. and you want to print it as media mail, just change the weight to 8 oz. (or whatever the actual weight is) and it will switch from first class and print as media mail.

Agreed.  There is no rule saying that you can't cross out what is printed.  I usually ask the people @ the post office for help, as well!

Half the time the books I ship out go first class.  The lady at the post office had gotten to know me very well.   She lets me know when it's cheaper to send out through first class instead of media mail - she says the machine tells her.  She will then cross out the media mail stamp and stamp first class on the package.  Lately we have been debating if the PBS postage is going to be over, under, or "on the money".  Sometimes she laughs when I come in staggering under a pile of books to mail out.

I take my books to the PO and they always weigh them, and sometimes it's cheaper to send them first class, even though the PBS 'genie' marked them as media.  Course I have great postal people.  LOL.  Pat

Sometimes the difference is only a few cents to mail First Class, which is so much quicker, so I leave it as that.
