This has happened to me a couple of times now and I can't figure out what, if anything, I am doing wrong. When I read a book that I have previously gotten through PBS, I go to the TBR page, rate it and mark it as read. Then I go to the Bookshelf and post it. This morning I did this with 3 books. It worked with 2 of them, but the third disappeared from the bookshelf so it cannot be posted. I know I can post it by going to the individual book page or by entering the ISBN, but then it loses the passport data. Has anyone else seen this? Am I doing something wrong? I suppose losing the passport data isn't the end of the world but I think it is fun to see the history and I never want it to look like I am trying to "hide" anything about a book. Thanks for your input. grace

Hi, Grace...what do you mean "passport data"? Once you mark a book by reviewing it, that information should stay with the book anytime you see it. Could it be this was a Wishlisted item and perhaps it is on hold waiting for the other member? |

I think the actual term is "passport stamp". It is the icon with what I think is a footprint that tells you the history of a book in PBS. You can see all the swaps it has been through and where it has traveled. It is not a wish list situation because I don't get a chance to post the book. When I mark it as read from the TBR page, it disappears from my bookshelf. It shows up on the Books I've Read page, but I can't get to a "Post" link from there. Again, this is intermittant. This morning I handled 3 books the same way and 1 had this problem. This is about the 3rd time I have seen this (but I have only been a member for about 3 weeks...) |

you could also go to your Transaction Archive and post it from there so that it keeps the passport info. and actually if you go to your TBR page and click on the book to post it will ask you to rate it when you go through those steps, so I would probably just rate it there and not on the TBR page. |

Well, I just tried posting it from the Transaction Archive page and it came up as never having been swapped before. Not the end of the world -- I was just hoping there was a way to preserve the history. |

If you post if from your TBR list it will retain the passport info. You just have to remember to do it before adding it to your BIR because that takes its off of your TBR. |

Yes, it moves it from the TBR to the Books I've Read list. The problem is that intermittantly it takes it off the bookshelf also... |

Wow, that is weird Grace...I just went through all that too (to see what would happen! LOL) and after posting it from my Transaction Archive, I still had the travel data there as well. So sorry that I have no answer for you! :( |

I just did some more playing (to see what would happen) and posted from my TBR pile. When I posted it from my TBR pile AND rated it with stars (so that it would be sure to show up on my BIR list), it went to my Bookshelf and kept the passport stamp data. So weird that it's not working all the time for you..... |

Then go to the bookshelf, rate it and add it to BIR from there. Then it will retain the passport data. If you move it to the BIR first and it is not on your bookshelf on hold, you lose can the passport data. Last Edited on: 12/11/08 12:48 PM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

you shouldn't have to go to your bookshelf to rate the book, when you are posting it that option is part of the posting process. |

Actually, these are books that are already on the Bookshelf because I got them via PBS. They are just on hold on the Bookshelf. If you just post them from the Bookshelf, they don't automatically come off the TBR page (which makes sense -- maybe you have a duplicate and still plan to read it). I think I will just chalk this up as one of the mysteries of life and move on. : ) |

Ahhhhhhhhhhh...finally it makes sense. LOL I had been scratching my head over what you were talking about because I post just about every book from my TBR pile to the system when I'm done and they always retain the passport stuff. But I never put the books on my shelf on hold...when I get a book from here I always remove it completely from my bookshelf and just use the TBR page to post instead. It's less confusing for my peri-menopausal, hot-flashed brain. LOL Cheryl |
