Forgive me if this has been mentioned, but I didn't see it in my browsing. I got a Nook for Christmas (YAY!) and am trying to set everything up so that I can download some library books to it. Here's what I've done, and the errors I'm having. -Downloaded ADE to my computer and registered my computer to it (or authorized it, whatever they call it :) ) -Connected my Nook and authorized the device in ADE *These both went well, and I can see "nook" over on the left pane like I should. The problem is that 6 out of the 9 ebooks on my nook are not showing up in ADE and are giving me the error message "Document is licensed for a different user account" when I try to open them. They're all ebooks I downloaded from B&N, or the free books that came on my nook. *eta - another problem I just noticed - I actually have 15 ebooks on my nook, but only 9 showed up (6 of which were not licensed to the user account). grrr Does anyone know if this is common, or what I might do to fix it? Thank you in advance! I really was hoping to play with my library's ebook library today! Last Edited on: 12/27/10 3:20 PM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

The books you buy from Barnes and Noble can't be read on your PC via Adobe Digital Editions, you have to download and install the Nook for PC program to read them: Any secure ePub books that you get from the library or another eBook store can be read in Adobe Digital Editions on your desktop, and must be transfered to your Nook through that program.

Elizabeth - thank you for your help! Ok, so it's just my B&N books that won't show up in ADE then? But if I bought ebooks from other sites, those should still work ok? (It's weird that 3 of my B&N ebooks show up in ADE, though.) I do have Nook for PC that I downloaded and installed before I got my Nook and that does seem to work great. I just checked and it synced up and shows everything like it should.

When I connect my Nook, the titles that I purchased from B&N show up in the ADE library, but the titles are in a weird format when displayed in ADE. Yes, if you buy epub titles from other websites such as Fictionwise or Kobo they will be readable in ADE.
I don't know for certain, but since the licenses for epub books are associated with your Adobe ID which is associated with your email account I'm guessing that the way the Nookbooks from B&N are licensed is slightly different - they must be associated with your B&N account, not just your email address. That is just a guess though. |

Can't answer your question but can confirm that the books I got from B&N do not show up in my ADE but the ones I got from the Sony Store and the library are all listed in ADE. |

You might be able to manually add them. Open ADE. In the left collumn, make sure ADE is in list mode by clicking on the icon of 3 books. There should be no book open. Click on Library, then "Add Item to Library." It should pop up a gray box where you can search your computer for the folder where you put your B&N ebooks. Click on one. It may add it to ADE's list. If it does, click on it to open the eBook. Sometimes the titles don't transfer correctly. A couple of times a book was listed as "Microsoft document," but opened to the eBook.
