Tautomeric changes in Organic Thiobodies through the agenoy of mercuric nitrite, mercuric chloride, cupric chloride, platinic chloride and monochloro acetic acid, By Dr. P. C. Ray, C. I. E, D. SC., PH. D. Rai Bahadur Dr. Chuni Lai Bose, i. s. o., M. B., F. C. S., was in the Chair when Dr. P. C. Ray read the above paper. Through the agency of Mercuric Nitrite, ethyl mercaptan yields a nitromercaptide of the formula C 2 H 5 . S. Hg N0 2 thiocarbamide yields a compound of the formula NH T CS. Hg NO 2 . HgS. HgO NH alkylthiocarbamide yields C H 3 C a H 5X CS. HgN0 2 . HgS. HgO which is due to the presence of a potential mercapto group and thioacetamide yields NB - CH 3 C. S. . Hg N0 2 . HgS. HgO The same kind of changes have been found to take place through the agency of Cupric, Mercuric and Platinic Chlorides, with the formation of chloromer captides. Ethyl mercaptan yields C 2 H 5 S HgCl and C 2 H 5 S C 2 H 5 . - r C o c r v 2 r u i 5 respectively with the corresponding chlorides. Thio glycol yields with phxtinic chloride, a chloromercaptide of the formula S-Q, H 4 thiocarbamide yields C V Cl S H with mercuric, platinic, and cupric chlorides, com pounds of the types NH s S. Hg Cl I HC1, 2 J C S NH 2 C S Cl . NH 5 HC1, C S Cu Cl Thioacetamide gives with platinic chloride , cr HCl C1 j Thiosemtcarbazide and platinic chloride yield a com xcs pound of the formula NH rn P J. t r C Vv l sl HCl 3 Thiocarbamide and monochloracetic acid form forma-NH midine thiolactic acid C. S. CHg. CO OH NH a in aqueous solution though the hydrochloride of this is formed in acetone solution mono-alkylthiocarbamide also yields corresponding substituted derivatives.
