Search - Prodigal Son (Frankenstein, Bk 1)

I don't know how I missed this trilogy! I loved it book one and immediately got all three and raced through reading them.

This trilogy is based on a modern day concept of Frankenstein, the monster and his maker.

This is Koontz at his best.

This entire series is the best reading of the past decade. It is so cleverly written, set in modern day New Orleans. I love "The Monster", who goes by another name and has been hiding in a monastery in Tibet until he learns that somehow his maker (the real "monster" in this tale) is still alive and continues to work his evil with the backing of the political and scientific community. The characters are fascinating! The story wraps up nicely at the end of the third book. However, probably because of popular demand, there will be more-the next coming in June. I can hardly wait!

I felt like after all the drama and horrific scenes that I had to endure to find out who was responsible for the murders I deserved a better conclusion.

The addition of autism occurring both natural and manufactured in the lab was startling and clever. Koontz seemed to have an insight to the condition that an ordinary layman would not and it brought a unique twist to that portion of the tale.

The character development and the originality of the story was excellent but I felt like the writing was a little disjointed and had some abrupt twists and turns that didn't add to the narrative. I am still miffed at the conclusion leaving so many loose threads hanging forcing me to read the next. A cheap manipulative tactic for such an experienced writer.

very well written rewrite of Frankenstein--Koontz set it up in New Orleans on a modern day level that is easy to follow through each page and each chapter, looking forward to the rest of the series.

Great, riveting story line. Renews the old classic by Mary Shelley. Couldn't put it down.
