Has anyone done this? It seems like all of a sudden I am getting a lot of requests for books. Normally, I wouldn't mind, but right now it just seems that this is becoming an expensive hobby, lol!! I have enough credits for my auto wish list books, and figure when I get down to 1 or 2 credits I will take my account off hold.

I wonder how common this will be as times get tougher?

Sure.  You can do it as often as you need to.  Sometimes I spend all of my postage budget in a few days and have to hold my shelf until payday:P  It happens.

A lot of people do it for that very reason. I did it recently for a couple of weeks when I spent $30/wk 3 wks in a row on postage. I appreciated earning the credits but I needed a breather. Although some of those were game books.

I talked to one member who stated that she sets aside an amount a month for PBS postage.  After spending that amount, she goes on vacation hold.  We set it up for me to request her book at the start of the next month.

But you need to make sure you have WL books on auto request, otherwise you don't get those books.

I have done that several times, Brenda. Requests seem to go in streaks, and if I get 15 or 20 at once it can break the postage budget! I've always got a bunch of credits stored up so I just put my account on hold, leave my WL to auto-request and stick a note on my profile to the effect that while my account is on hold, I'm not "gone" and will be here to mark books received when they arrive--sometimes people get worried if they post one of my auto-requested books and happen to check the account and then see it's on hold, so a note there might reassure people.

I do that occasionally for $$ reason.  I usually put $20.00 at a time in my PBS swap postage and when that is gone I have been known to put things on hold..unless it is around pay day and can funnel some more into the account.

Also, be ready when you go off hold.  I think books continue to move up in FIFO.. so you  might have a few more orders than you expect when the hold comes off.

I've done it once or twice for the same reason.  I didn't want to have to decline offers because I'm broke, better they skip to the next member for a bit until I can mail out again.

I do it to save $$. I put the closest WL books on auto or not depending on if I have credits. If I don't have credits I just keep my place in line. But I've found when I come off hold I'll have 3-5 WL books waiting for me. Actually, I took my whole shelf down a while ago cause I was having problems finding books. I need to get them reposted. LOL
