Miss Hildegarde Withers stumbles across the body of top model Violet Feverel on the Central Park bridle path, last seen riding a big red thoroughbred named Siwash. The police dub the tragedy an unfortunate accident but Miss Withers is sure it is murder. Joining forces with NY's grumpiest homicide inspector, Oscar Piper, she is off and running after a killer. Then a day at the races ends with another dead body, and she must play a deadly game of sleuth where the stakes are high and the odd are growing higher.
