I've been using printed postage for my entire time on this site, and it's never caused me any trouble.  But I came back from vacation hold today and needed to print off a few wrappers.  On anything that I print at a 2lb rate or over came up and printed normally as Media Mail.  For 1lb rate, it created and printed the label as a First Class Package.  Has this changed in the 3 weeks I've been gone?  Is this an error I should report?  Do I need to worry about it at all?

Stefani - If the weight of your package is 7 oz. or below, the system will pick First Class because it's cheaper than Media Mail. So take a look at the weight of the book in the system and make sure it matches the package you have (sometimes, the weighs are wrong so it's always good to make sure the weight is correct.)

If the weight of the book in the system is 8 oz. or higher, then it's a mistake and I'd definitely send in Feedback.

Interesting, I didn't know that.  I usually do cross reference the weight on amazon or some other bookseller page so I don't under-estimate, but I forgot to look on this one.  I looked at the wrapper and it's showing 8oz even.  On the set up it was showing the book at 7.8 so it rounded up to 8 oz.  That sounds about right from looking at the book, its a MMPB...I am just so used to it rounding up to the 1lb or 2lb rate, never had one less than that.   So it sounds like it should be alright, though it makes me nervous that it might not be enough so I'll double check the weight at home with the actual book to be 100% sure.

Today I mailed a book, exact same paperback copy and ISBN that shows on the page. It printed out a First Class label, but when I took it to the Post Office today with other items, the woman told me that the postage I paid was not enough to cover First Class. I had to pay an additional 90 cents.  I wish the wrapper had printed Media Mail instead. The only thing "extra" was a manila envelope and a bit tape of wide tape to hold the printed address sheet.

I fear the postage cost will become too costly to keep trading.

Hmmmmm - Was she a new clerk? Did she understand that since you printed it off, you were given discounted postage?

I have been going to the same PO since I joined PBS about 2 years ago. In that time I have had to educate four or five new clerks about PBS First Class printed postage (It is discounted), DC only costs $0.19 at the PO, and the suggested Media Mail postage is only suggested.

Often, I have had to ask a more experienced clerk to step over and confirm what I was telling the new clerk.
