Biting banter. Dick and Jane (married, but to different spouses) run off to the Midi, each hoping to be divorced. Their spouses follow them. Humm; have I read this before? The Reverend Mr. S and his wife and daughter (Do all English clergymen have one daughter?) keep bumping into them. Now we have three couples; will there be a fourth? Much of the sarcasm emanates from Lady Herondenan often-wronged spouse. Hart & Kaufmann assigned similar badinage to Annabelle in George Washington Slept Here. Were they following Cowards lead? Enough asides! The spouses catch up with the absconding pair and manage to bring relationships back to normal. For a year at least. Lo and behold, those originally wronged are absconding using the same ruse. And, guess what? There at the same landing are the Reverend Mr. S and his family. Aah, I have it. I am reminded of Private Lives in which two couples who have divorced and married each others spouses find that they were both wrong to do so, and switch back again. A variation on a theme.
