This is one of the best YA fantasy books I have ever read. Hard to believe it is out of print. A story of a boy, a girl, and their animal friends who try to save the world from nuclear holocaust with the help of the elves. They both fail and succeed, which makes for a strange ending. A good book to read aloud with a pre-teen but it can get scary because it is so close to what could really happen in the real world.

A cross between Lord of the Rings and Watership Down. Man, animals & nature. A book to curl up with.
