I had a book with an ISBN that wasn't on anyone's wl.  I  "advertised " in the bazzaar and in the genre forums.  Then a memeber told me I couldn't advertise in the genres, bc its against the rules.  I apologized, and then looked to see were that rule is , but I can't find it.  I just want to know where it is.

By the way, it was a member who had advised me to post an ad in the genre forum to begin with  , so i am so confused. lol

From help center:

"Topics advertising your bookshelf should NOT be started in any forum but the Book Bazaar. Keeping "deals" and the like confined to the Book Bazaar not only unclutters the other forums, but also allows members who post deals to be sure that their deal is seen, and members who seek deals to find them. We have created enough forums to allow a place for anything our members might like to discuss."

Each genre forum has a red sticky thread at the top to post deals and ads in. I've pretty much given up reading the Children's Book forum because of the relentless deal posts. I've reminded members of the rule countless times, but no one seems to care.

You are only allowed to advertise your shelf in the bazaar.

From help docs (I searched on Bazaar) "We ask that members give thought to the appropriateness of their topic for the forum in which they post. It works best for everyone if questions are posted in Questions About PaperBackSwap, USPS issues are posted in USPS Postal Regulations, games are confined to Games, etc. Topics advertising your bookshelf should NOT be started in any forum but the Book Bazaar. Keeping "deals" and the like confined to the Book Bazaar not only unclutters the other forums, but also allows members who post deals to be sure that their deal is seen, and members who seek deals to find them. We have created enough forums to allow a place for anything our members might like to discuss."

That said, several genre forums have sticky spots to advertise deals.  Easier to have a place than to try and keep them completely out, and does help the forum to me.  Some genre forums also have advertise your shelf notes (Graphic novels does, for example), and I think a few the culture allows it more generally.   It'd be something you'd want to check the specific forum.  Technically it's not allowed, but check the forum to see what actual practice is.

Patty, I don't know if you're talking about this one or not, but I did see a recent advertising thread by you in the Love & Romance forum on the Nora Roberts book.  There's a thread in that forum for advertising deals.  It's a sticky at the top of the forum posts.  here's a link to it: *** Book Deals, Offers, Bookshelf Promotions ***

You can put your book deals or any kind of shelf promotions there and you can also add them into your forums sig from your account settings page.  Some people have their account settings so that they can't see sigs in forum posts though, so do advertise in the Book Bazaar if you want to attract people to your shelf.

Some of the Genre threads also have an 'Is This On Your WL thread" to keep these things contained.  Otherwise the boards fill up with deal offers and the actual book/genre discussions get pushed down-making the board no fun.

The 2 best ways to do this is to put any deals or special books in your signature line so it's seen whereever you post.  Then as mentioned several times take advantage of the sticky thread in the forums but be sure to follow the rules.  I believe you are only allowed one post per forum sticky thread per day.  When your deal is up or gone go back and delete the content of your post so it doesn't confuse anyone.

The forums that get alot of traffic all seem to have a red thread to promote bookshelves and deals.  And those busy forums are where folks will get huffy about starting a thread just to promote your shelf.  But those same forums welcome threads started to talk about what you just finished.  Which can be a round about way to promote your shelf.

Each section has a slightly different vibe and policy.  Which can be confusing.

I've noticed that your wish list is on private setting.

And even better than deleting, is to edit to cross out the old deals/posts.  Another round about promotion, so folks know what kind of books you post and want.
