Are all book club editions the smaller size hardcovers, or is it just certain ones?

If you wanted to have an RC asking not to get those small size ones (BCE is fine as long as its the same size as the regular books) and that it must include the dust jacket, how would you word this?

This would be only for one particular series and would only be turned on when those are ordered.

There have been other threads about similiar topics ... "why do people keep sending me BCE books even through I have an RC, etc".

So, the advice on other threads has been:
1. make sure you clearly describe exactly what it is you do or don't want.
2. Be prepared to be turned down a lot by members who don't want to go research whatever it is that you want.

Other members have found that many people do not know what BCE books are. And, even if they think they do know, they might be incorrect. So, you need to make sure that you also describe how to tell the BCE books that you do not want, from the regular ones that you do want.

Keep in mind, that probably other members will not be as familiar with this series as you are, and they are only looking at a single book, not a bunch of them to compare against each other. So, your description needs to be good enough that people can tell from looking at only the book in their hand, if it meets the conditions.

I could suggest wording something like:

For This series of books:
There are two versions of this hardcover with this ISBN, one is a Book Club Edition, and one is a regular sized book.
I will only accept the regular sized book.
Here is how to tell if your book is the regular sized book: put how to tell exactly, here
Thanks very much for considering this request!
If you have a question, you can PM me at name

Good luck! You might also put more details about the differences between the two editions of the books in your post here in the forum, and maybe people can help you to word your RC even better. Tell us what the exact differences are, and then I'm sure lots of people will have advice  :)

OR

For This series of books:
There are two sizes of this hardcover with the same ISBN.
I will only accept the hardcover that is this size: put size here. The other edition is a smaller Book Club Edition, which I do not want.
Thanks very much for considering this request!

The one I received before had the same ISBN as the regular hardcover, it was just a lot smaller.  So I guess I just want to make sure I don't get the small size but I'm not sure how to word that, when the only way they would know it was the BCE is because of the size.  I dont' care if its BCE as long as its regular size.

I don't want to even turn the RC's on until I can figure out how to word it so that its simple and clear to the sender.

I suppose I could always just not use the RC and leave it up to chance and repost if I don't get the right one.  At least then I wouldn't risk being turned down and missing out on the one I want!

You may have to measure the two books and put the actual measurements in the RC.

You will probably get declined from people who aren't willing to measure the book, for whatever reason.

Paula,

Here is my RC that covers exactly what you are describing:

For James Patterson hardcover - please fullsize hardback only (9 1/2" tall)  and must have dust jacket. Thanks!

Christina,

thank you, that sounds perfect!  Must measure the books to see if they are the same size.  Thanks!

Also BCEs almost NEVER have prices on them - the original hardbacks almost always do.

Also, BCE's have a small box on the bottom corner of the jacket with 5 numbers in it.

Another thought I noticed above, one of you said, "if you have a question, PM me NAME

DO NOT PUT ONLY YOUR NAME. For example if I just put Sherry, there are 144 of us with that first name. So, be sure to put your NICKNAME and NAME so that they can be sure they can find you in the Membership directory.

Also it wouldn't hurt to add after your Nickname & Name the following parenthesized statement (You can find me in the membership directory, which is under the Community tab above in the gray bar)

Don't use indicators that are not ALWAYS the case. You cannot always guarantee that the BCE doesn't have a price, sometimes they do. You cannot guarantee that all BCEs will have the little box of 5 digits on the back of the cover. Not always there. The difference in size is not even always a guarantee, but is the most commonly correct difference. You might say "some of the possible indications that the book is a BCE include: and list those things mentioned". Just some thoughts that hopefully will help.

Sherry,

Just wondering, perhaps all  BCE's don't have  the little  box; but if the box is there, is  that a guarantee that it is a BCE?
