Okay, it seems as though this is not getting resolved.  It is a book that came originally with supplement materials that are non essential to use the book - you can find the materials at any office supply.  I have read the help section here: http://www.paperbackswap.com/help/help_item.php?id=205  and feel this book falls here:

Books that originally had accompanying non-Media materials that are not required to read the book (ie, jewelry) MAY be posted.

  • The extra material does not have to be included, and if it is included, the book must not be sent using Media mail rate.

The member that has received my book does not agree and finds the materials to be absolutely essential.

I have offered to send a self addressed stamped envelope and she can return the book and ask for her credit back (I have not received credit for this book as I didn't use pbs postage).

I think really the usefullness of this book is not hindered by having the original supplement materials with it - the book is called "Managers of their Chores."  You can buy the 4 clip on badge holders, the plastic binder card holder, and card stock fairly easily.  Anyway,  I'm hoping the member doesn't just want to keep the book and get her credit back which would be pretty dishonest.

Essential means like a DVD rom or a CD, flashcards, and such.  Things that you must have in order to use the book.  I do not think that the items you stated are essential in being able to use that book.  Personally, I wouldn't give the credit back.  She can use any paperclip and paper to be able to use the book.  It is not essential to be able to use.

I agree with Kellie.  The items are not needed in order to read the book.

If the requestor wants the book with the accompanying materials, they would need to have Requestor Conditions for the book.

She needs to mark it recieved first and foremost.

Then figure out if the book is unusable without those special to it items. If it is, then it is an unpostable and you should refund the credit first, and ask if she will return the book if you povide a postage paid envelope.

If you are certain the book does not need those items then explain that in responce to her marking the book RWAP and let her know you why and that you will not be refunding the credit. If ever your account is in question the team can see your side of things as well.

 Link to book?

If the book can be used without the non-media stuff, then just stick with that. I can't tell from looking at any listings either on PBS or any other sites what the non-media is, let alone whether it is needed to use the book. If it is just generic office supplies like you indicate in your post, then yes they do not need to be included for the book to be posted. If they were pre-printed or had some other aspect that would take a lot of work for the user to make generic options work with the book, then I might think that the items would be required to use the book.

There will be times when a disagreement will not have a resolution. If you truly believe the non-media items are not needed for use with the book, tell them that.

I'm glad this was resolved.  I saw this sells for $16.99 used  on Amazon so for the price of a credit I think they're getting a good deal.
