The book I requested was marked lost in mail three weeks ago. I contacted the sender and was told that the book most likely wasn't mailed (for reasons I won't get into here).  My question is, now that it's been past 2 weeks, am I ok to request the book again, without having to worry about the other book showing up and being out 2 credits for the book? I've been a PBS member for over a year, but it's my first "book lost in mail" situation, and the help docs just say that I need to wait at least 2 weeks. I'm getting quite anxious for the book, because it's the first in the series, and I already have books 2-6 that I can't read until I've read the first.

I've went back a few pages in the forum, but I don't really see anything to answer my question. Thanks for any help!

Laura, It's safe to order another copy. If the sender of the first copy hinted that it had not been mailed then it probably never was. I'd say your safe to order another copy. Hope you get your book soon!

Also, remember if it is a popular book chances are that on the off chance you get a second book you can post it and mail it out getting your credit back.

But, remember even if you order another book now that you've waited the 2 weeks and the original book shows up you will have to mark it received and the sender will get a credit.  But, if the sender suggests that the book wasn't mailed it probably wasn't.

If the sender now mails it and does not let you know that they're mailing it to you and you've requested and received another copy of the same book, you don't have to mark the first book as received.  It's clearly got to have been mailed after the book was declared lost in the mail though.  That's the only exception to making a lost book received.

If the sender mails the book AFTER the lost date has already passed, you don't have to give credit for it unless the sender PM's you and asks you if you still want the book AND you reply that you do. I'm going through this right now because my post office just returned me a whole boxful of books that were mailed in November, marked lost a couple of weeks ago, and turned out to have been stolen from the post office and were just recovered. So I've got NINE books here that I have to wait to see if the requesters still want them since we are now 9 days past the date they were marked lost. And one of the requesters has already told me not to bother re-sending.
